WooCommerce Skin Quiz Engine — OsloGlow Norway
Industries
🎯 The Challenge
OsloGlow is a professional skincare and laser treatment clinic in Oslo. After parting with their previous Next.js developer, they needed a single reliable developer to take over the site and all future changes. The existing site was built on Next.js — a JavaScript framework requiring developer involvement for every content edit — and hosted on Vercel, meaning the domain's A record was pointing to Vercel rather than the client's One.com hosting account. One.com could not remove the Vercel connection without client access to the Vercel account, which the client did not have — the previous developer had set it up and never handed it over. The client was also running active paid ad campaigns during the migration window, adding time pressure. Beyond the migration, the client wanted a custom personalised skin quiz recommendation engine that would map customer inputs to specific products from the ZO Skin Health and SkinCeuticals lines, generate personalised AM/PM skincare routines, and allow one-click addition of the full routine to a WooCommerce cart. The original client proposal requested an AI image analysis system using OpenAI or Google Cloud Vision.
💡 Our Solution
Rebuilt the full osloglow.no website — 15+ pages — on WordPress with Elementor, replicating layout, Norwegian content, treatment pages, pricing tables, staff bios, and booking links from the existing Next.js site. Resolved the Vercel-to-One.com DNS conflict by working through One.com support to repoint the domain A record without requiring direct Vercel access. Managed the migration timing around active ad campaigns, communicating clearly about downtime risk and advising on pausing ad spend during the highest-risk window. For the skin quiz, counter-proposed a rule-based logic engine rather than AI — rationale: faster, fully deterministic, controllable, testable, and safe for skincare product recommendations where inconsistency creates brand and health risk. AI image analysis was positioned as a future Phase 2 enhancement. Built a six-step multi-step quiz using a priority-based logic hierarchy (Sensitive → Acne → Pigmentation → Aging → Texture), dynamic skin profile generation, AM/PM routine output with correct skincare layering (cleanser → treatment → SPF last as a system-wide permanent rule), and WooCommerce product mapping across 40+ products from two brand lines. One-click "add full routine to cart" built with AJAX for smooth no-reload WooCommerce integration. Independent acceptance testing conducted by the client's PPC specialist against a documented test sheet — routine ordering bug identified and fixed as a permanent system-wide rule, confirmed via Loom video walkthrough. Additional ongoing work: Meta Pixel integration, SMTP configuration, new staff bios added, pricing table expansions, blog posts, mobile responsiveness overhaul, campaign section added across treatment pages, social media links, and contact form fixes.
🏆 The Result
Full WordPress site live at osloglow.no — all 15+ pages migrated from Next.js, Norwegian content intact, Vercel DNS conflict resolved, site on correct One.com WordPress hosting. WooCommerce product catalogue live with ZO Skin Health and SkinCeuticals lines. Rule-based skin quiz engine live — six-step quiz, priority logic, dynamic AM/PM routine generation with correct skincare layering order confirmed through independent QA testing. One-click full routine add-to-cart working via AJAX. Meta Pixel active for ad tracking. Contact form delivering to clinic email. Three milestones paid and approved: $480 (site rebuild), $800 (webshop setup), $800 (logic engine and product mapping) — $2,080 total with ongoing maintenance and updates continuing. Client trusted the developer relationship built through the earlier AirCliniq migration, and expanded the engagement significantly once the foundation proved reliable.
