🎯 The Challenge
During a routine attempt to fix a broken gallery page, a WordPress database update ran automatically in the background and reset the ElementsKit sticky header template to default — removing the custom header, logo, and sticky navigation built in Phase 1. The client's custom HTML two-widget footer, which had taken several hours to build for SEO link structure, also disappeared and was replaced by the theme's default footer. The gallery page itself had broken image links. The client reported the site live-facing visitors with no branded navigation, no sticky header, incorrect logo placement, a redundant "Get a Quote" button floating in the navigation, and a generic theme footer showing incorrect branding. UpdraftPlus backups had previously been tried but the plugin was being deleted automatically due to a conflict, leaving no restore point.
💡 Our Solution
Emergency access confirmed same day. ElementsKit header rebuilt from scratch — sticky transparent configuration restored, SVG logo reapplied upper left, favicon reapplied. Redundant "Get a Quote" button removed from the right side of the navigation. Sticky scroll behaviour confirmed active. Custom two-widget HTML footer recreated to restore the SEO-structured footer link layout the client had originally built. Gallery page broken image links investigated. Post-recovery check confirmed all navigation, header, and footer elements displaying correctly across desktop and mobile. UpdraftPlus daily automated backup recommended as a priority to prevent recurrence — with guidance that future WordPress database updates should be monitored for plugin conflicts that could delete the backup plugin itself.
🏆 The Result
Sticky transparent header, logo, favicon, and navigation restored and confirmed live. Redundant navigation button removed. Custom HTML footer rebuilt and displaying correctly. Gallery page issues identified. Emergency recovery completed same day for $20. Client confirmed relief and continued the ongoing support relationship established from Phase 1. Key lesson from this incident applied to all ongoing managed sites: automated daily off-server backups are non-negotiable on any WordPress site running custom header builders and HTML widget footers, as WordPress core updates can silently reset ElementsKit header templates without warning.
