🎯 The Challenge
Standing on the Rock needed a membership platform where each user type — student, alumni, coach, enrollment coordinator, and admin — saw a completely different dashboard, not merely restricted content. Access had to be controlled entirely by an external CRM: adding or removing a GoHighLevel tag needed to create, upgrade, or revoke WordPress membership automatically, in real time. The complexity ran deeper than page building. Roles were additive, so one student could hold several tags at once, and a coaching section had to appear inside the student view only when specific tags were present. Payment milestones gated course content in stages. On top of this, the client was under severe time pressure and treated the deadline as the primary constraint.
💡 Our Solution
I recommended Paid Memberships Pro for its flexibility with custom workflows and external integrations, and confirmed Elementor for the interface. I designed each dashboard as a modular, editable layout so the client could evolve them without a developer. For the CRM layer, I specified a direct webhook (with Zapier as fallback) posting contact email, tag, contact ID, and timestamp to a WordPress REST endpoint — built to be idempotent so GoHighLevel retries could not corrupt access states. Payment-milestone gating and season-based alumni status changes were mapped into the role logic. All of this was captured in a full written proposal and an alignment call, and I insisted on a role-logic/tag-flow mapping session before any code.
🏆 The Result
The proposal was approved ("Looks great. Let's move forward.") and GHL admin access was granted. However, under time pressure the client built the frontend independently on Lovable, reducing the project to backend-only. The revised scope no longer fit the original timeline, so both parties mutually cancelled the Fiverr order to renegotiate cleanly. No code was shipped and no payment was collected. The lasting value was a documented architecture and a clear demonstration of scoping discipline on a CRM-connected membership system. (No performance metrics exist — this project did not reach production.)
